At Welford we value the role of music in our curriculum and so have expanded our provision in recent years. Our children in Year 3, 4 and 5 all take part in a weekly programme of intensive music tuition provided by specialist music teachers to help them learn the guitar in year 3, brass instruments or keyboard in year 4 and keyboards in year 5. Children who show a particular aptitude in music are able to carry on this specialist teaching in a small group in Years 5 and 6. The school also offers violin lessons for our children with a visiting specialist.
Meanwhile, children in EYFS, plus years 1, 2 and 6, work with a specialist music teacher on composition across the academic year. We have also previously worked on a range of external music projects linked to bodies such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Finally, all children participate in weekly singing assemblies and we are proud to have both a children’s and staff choir.
