At Welford we value the role of music in our curriculum and so have expanded our provision in recent years. Our children in Year 3, 4 and 5 all take part in a weekly programme of intensive music tuition provided by specialist music teachers to help them learn the guitar in year 3, brass instruments or keyboard in year 4 and keyboards in year 5. Children who show a particular aptitude in music are able to carry on this specialist teaching in a small group in Years 5 and 6. The school also offers violin lessons for our children with a visiting specialist.
Meanwhile, children in Reception are working with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and the Birmingham Conservatoire on a musical project and Nursery plus years 1, 2 and 6 receive units of musical composition with a specialist music teacher spread across the year.
Finally, all children participate in weekly singing assemblies and we are proud to have both a children’s and staff choir.
